On October 8, 2014, the City of Kansas City issued payment to opt in members who joined the suit. Payment was supposed to be issued in the form of a hard check, accompanied by a notice of certain rights and opportunities. A Copy of the notice is located HERE. Please read carefully through the notice to understand what your rights and obligations are. 


However, the City did not follow the agreed protocol, and for current employees, issued payment in the form of direct deposit. The parties are in the process of determining what steps to take to ensure that each opt in member has the same rights as set forth in the notice.

The Hodgson Law Firm LLC has filed a wage and hour collective action against The City of Kansas City Fire Department The plaintiffs were employed by the City as Paramedics and EMTs who previously worked for the Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust (“MAST”). When the City took over the ambulance services, it re-classified the plaintiffs as firefighters, exempt from overtime, despite having no training, equipment or responsibility to engage in fire suppression. The plaintiffs seek unpaid overtime premium pay on behalf of themselves and a class of similarly situated EMTs and Paramedics.
